Privacy policy
What we collect, why we collect it, and what you can ask us to do with it. Written to the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
Who we are
The Cricket Company is a cricket and hockey retailer trading from DP World Wanderers Stadium, 35 Corlett Drive, Illovo, Johannesburg, and from seven other branches listed on our stores page. This policy covers cricketcompanystore.co.za and the order system behind it.
What we collect
When you place an order:
- Your name, email address and phone number
- Your delivery address and billing address
- What you ordered, and the order total
When you create an account: the same details, kept so you do not have to type them again. An account is also created automatically when you order as a guest, so your order history is available to you.
When you contact us: whatever you send us — your WhatsApp number, email address and the content of the message.
We do not run analytics or advertising trackers on this site. No Google Analytics, no Meta pixel, no session recording. We are not building a profile of your browsing.
Payment details
We never see your card. Payments are processed by PayFast, a South African payment provider. Your card details are entered on their system and are not transmitted to or stored on this site. We receive only a confirmation that payment succeeded and a transaction reference.
What your browser stores
Your cart and wishlist are kept in your own browser, not on our servers. Clearing your browser data clears them. A session cookie keeps you signed in while you shop and during checkout.
Why we hold your information
- To fulfil your order — we cannot deliver without an address
- To keep you informed — order confirmations and tracking emails
- To handle returns and warranties — proof of purchase requires a record of it
- To answer you when you get in touch
- To meet our legal obligations, including tax records
Who we share it with
We share only what is necessary, and only with:
- Our courier partner — your name, delivery address and phone number, so they can deliver and you can be contacted
- PayFast — to process your payment
- Our point-of-sale system — order records, so branches and stock stay accurate
- Our email provider — to send order notifications
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for anyone else's marketing.
How long we keep it
Order records are kept for as long as we are required to hold them for tax and accounting purposes, and for as long as a warranty or return might reasonably arise. Account details are kept until you ask us to delete them.
Your rights under POPIA
You may ask us to:
- Tell you what we hold about you
- Correct anything that is wrong
- Delete your information, where we are not legally required to keep it
- Object to how we are using it
Email [email protected] and we will deal with it. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
Keeping it safe
The site is served over HTTPS. Access to order data is restricted to staff who need it to process orders. No system is perfect, and we will not pretend otherwise — but card details are the most sensitive thing in a transaction and those never reach us at all.
